PESHAWAR: Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour while speaking to Geo News Monday said that if they bailout package had been released that the deficit would not have increased to the current level.

“If the money was released then the crisis would not have escalated to this level” Bilour said.

Bilour added that Railways required 30 engines a year and gave the example of India where over 100 engines were added to the fleet on a yearly basis.

Bilour’s statements come as employees of Pakistan Railways are protesting against the non-payment of their salaries and a delegation of department officials is expected to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss the crisis.
