How to Add Ringtones and Wallpaper

Just as there are many websites on the internet that offer free wallpapers from your Windows PC and Mac computer, there are also many Free Cell Phone Wallpaper Resources out there as well. The same can be said about cell phone ringtones.
In a nutshell, there are three or four different ways to get new ringtones and wallpapers onto your mobile handset.
  • Download directly from your service provider. If your phone is properly equipped, you can surf a mini version of the internet on your cell phone (sometimes referred to as WAP mobile web) and from there, you can directly access a wide variety of content. This costs money, though, not only for the actual downloads themselves, but sometimes just for browsing! Check with your network operator (Verizon Wireless, Telus Mobility, etc.) for details.

  • Use a USB data cable. Most phones do not come with a free USB data cable, but you can usually purchase them from Cell Phone Accessories stores. Make sure you get the one that is compatible with your particular model, as even within a manufacturer, there are usually several different cables. From here, you will need to use some sort of software specific to your phone. Motorola phones typically use Mobile Phone Tools or MPT for short.
  • Bluetooth. This will function in much the same way as a USB data cable, except it is completely wireless. Of course, your computer will need to have a Bluetooth connection of some kind (USB dongles can be found for pretty cheap) and your cell phone will have to be able to use its bluetooth (assuming it has it) for data transfers. Specifically, you should ask your cell phone provider about the OBEX (object exchange) profile.
  • Camera Phones. This method isn't particularly useful for ringtones, but what better way to get a custom cell phone wallpaper than with a picture you took yourself. Most handsets that are equipped with a camera give you the option to use those photographs as you background or "wallpaper".
How to Apply or Use Ringtones and Wallpaper

How you actually go about applying or using those ringtones and wallpapers is specific to each phone as they each operate a little differently. You can usually find a step by step guide in your user's manual, but the process generally goes something like this.
  1. <LI roundtrip="0" lastVisited="0">

    <LI roundtrip="0" lastVisited="0">
    Go to the settings menu

    <LI roundtrip="0" lastVisited="0">
    Select the appropriate image or sound file
  2. Click "OK" or "Confirm"
There are many individual differences, but that is the general procedure. For ringtones, you may have to go into the individual ring "styles" (like Office, Silent, or Loud) and you can apply them to specific cell phone entries or categories in your phone book
