Crazy or brilliant? Foodtubes seek to reduce carbon emissions by building an underground pipeline to deliver food and freight.

Six-foot long metal tubes would move goods at 60 mph using linear induction motors and intelligent routing software.


The company wants to start in a London suburb with a $625 million pilot network connecting the borough's food shops, schools and buildings.


If successful, enough diesel trucks would be removed from roadways, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by eight percent per year, as well as easing traffic congestion.
