    Breast cancer is common. In fact, the chance of a woman having breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8.2 But with early detection and improved treatment options, it doesn’t have to be a death sentence.

    The good news: Breast cancer death rates are declining.
    The reasons: Early detection and improved breast cancer treatment options.

    In 2006:2
    212,960 women were diagnosed with breast cancer.
    40,970 women died from breast cancer.
    Over 2 million women who live in the U.S. have been treated for breast cancer.
