The number of students in Hazara University has increased rapidly from 164 in 2001 to 4207 in 2006. Similarly the number of faculty members has gone upto 210 in 2006 from the initial team of 6 faculty members. However, there is still a shortage of PhD qualified teachers. Currently the University has 26 PhD scholars as faculty members. In order to meet the shortfall of PhD qualified staff a project has been submitted to the Higher Education Commission with a total cost of Rs.340.337 million. Forty (40) scholars will be sent abroad under the project for PhD training. The project also has provision for construction of a Multipurpose Hall, Boundary Wall, a Student Service Center and Research & Planning Office. The project has been approved by HEC/CDWP on June 14, 2007 with the completion period of 5 years. The major component (70%) of the project is for faculty development. 21-faculty member have been selected for scholarship abroad against the target of 20 for the first year. Four (04) scholars have already joined in their respective Universities in the UK, while the admission of twelve (12) scholars have been secured and the admission of rest six (06) scholars is in progress. The design work of the buildings have been completed and tenders have been invited for award of contract.
