5 Tips For Helping Kids With Homework

The start of the school year means homework. And lots of it.
So how do you help your child with his homework when it’s been years since you’ve been in school?
There’s no right or wrong answer here, but I’ve got some tips that might help.
Tips For Helping Kids With Homework

  1. Show them you think homework is important. Having a set time for homework, removing distractions, and having all the necessary supplies available shows your child that YOU think it’s important. This will, in turn, make them think it’s important.
  2. Monitor Their Assignments. Keep track of your child’s assignments and check them when they’ve completed them.
  3. Provide Guidance. Help your child get organized, talk about the assignments, and give her praise.
  4. Talk with Teachers to Resolve Problems. Let your child try to resolve problems with teachers first. But if they are having trouble, chime in. But tactfully. Work with the teacher to come to some sort of compromise.
  5. Be Patient. Try to be patient with your child. He just finished an entire day of school and now has to do homework. He’s beat. Give him a snack and let him take some break.
