As-Salaam alaikum,
Described as excessive eating, drinking, indulgence and greed, gluttony also manifests simply as act of eating too much even after one is satisfied. The human stomach is designed like a ballon, the more you eat, the more it expands.

Obesity more often than not redults from gluttony. Overeating is leading people to a variety of illnesses from heart disease to diabetes, arthritis, insomnia and others.

In Islam, gluttony is frowned upon. We learnt from the hadith : Miqdam ibn Madikarib, may Allah be pleased with him, said : "I heard the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, say: 'A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one third of food, one-third for drink and one-third for air. " (Ibn Majah 3349,Book 29, Hadith 99).

In another hadith, we have it where the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, is also reported saying: -

" The food of 2 persons suffices for 3, and the food of 3 suffices for 4". (Bukhari, 5392, Book 70,Hadith 20)...meaning that food meant for 2 people can clearly accommodate a third person when eaten moderately.

Some people nickname gluttony as a killer, while some are of the view that gluttony eats the glutton.

Ailments attack and harm our bodies and alter its normal functions due to excess amount of substances we consume, traceable to overeating or consuming more than what the body needs-- so, eat/drink moderately and the body will get maximum benefit.
