The Groasis Waterboxx gives plants a chance to survive long enough to reach water that is trapped beneath the surface.

This could provide the solution to deforestation and overfarming that have decreased the productivity of about 70 percent of the world's arid and semi-arid lands.

The Waterboxx is wrapped around the plant, then filled with four gallons of water. The water drips at a rate of about three tablespoons a day, sustaining the plant while its roots grow deep enough to survive.

After a year, the farmer can remove the box and use it again on another plant.

Tests in the Sahara proved that 88 percent of Waterboxx sheltered plants survived, versus only 10 percent that were left on their own.
