NASA scientists have discovered a bacteria that is based on arsenic instead of carbon, a discovery that has shaken up the scientific world.
The GFAJ-1 was discovered in Mono Lake in California.
Because the microbe builds itself out of arsenic, it could be a key element in cleaning up arsenic laden toxic waste areas. Just pepper the area with these tiny organisms and they could eat up all the arsenic.
Researchers also want to figure out if an arsenic-based ethanol could be created.
