What You'll Be Creating
Looking for a cool way to display your eggs - or other bits and pieces? Make this bang-on-trend geo paper basket. The polygonal basket is made out of paper and is easy to assemble in just a few steps.

Supplies

  • Colored construction paper
  • Cutter or scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pen
  • Glue
  • Tissue paper
  • Print-out of geo basket template
1. Print the Design
Step 1
Download and print out the geo basket PDF template by clicking the picture below. To create a decent-sized basket that will fit three to four eggs, print out the template on A3 paper (29.7cm × 42cm or 11.69in × 16.54 in).

If your construction paper is too thick to print, print the template out on normal printer paper and then transfer it to the construction paper. You can also draw the design directly on to the paper, copying the pattern in the template. Just make sure that the edge of each triangle is 6cm (2.4in).

Cut Out the Basket
Step 1
The basket is actually a regular icosahedron which is one of the five Platonic solids. The only difference is that it's not technically geometrically perfect, as you need to drop the top five triangular faces to transform it into an open basket.

Now that you have a clearer idea of what you are making, place the construction paper on a cutting mat and use a cutter (with the help of a ruler) to cut the contour, shown with a dotted line. Feel free to cut the contours with scissors if you find them easier to use.

Step 2
Carefully cut along the dotted lines on the left side of triangles (numbers 1, 2, 3, 4).

Make sure not to cut further inside the paper.

3. Fold It
Step 1
Once the template is cut, fold along all the solid lines of the pattern. First, fold the paper upwards along the horizontal line and crease well.

Step 2
Unfold the paper, and fold it once more towards the right. Keep on folding to the right along all the diagonal lines.

Step 3
Unfold the paper and fold towards the left this time, along the diagonal lines.

At this point, all solid lines of the pattern should be folded and creased and your paper should start forming the shape of a basket.

4. Glue It
Step 1
Unfold the paper and add some glue to the No.1 triangle.

Step 2
Place the glued triangle (No.1) under the triangle on its left. Make sure the two triangles overlap exactly. Hold the triangles steadily in place until they are firmly glued together.

Step 3
Repeat the same process by gluing triangle No.2 under the triangle on its left.

Keep on gluing and holding in place until you complete the base of the basket. The base will be complete once you've glued triangles No.1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Triangle No.5 will be glued under the first one.

Step 4
Once the base is ready, all you need to do is glue triangle No.6 on the open end to the other side of the basket.

That's it. Your geo paper basket is complete!

Fill Your Basket With Eggs
Once your paper icosahedron is complete, pop a bit of crumpled tissue paper inside to make it soft and welcoming for the eggs.

This faceted basket is a special way to display your eggs this Easter. You can also use the basket beyond Easter for storing everyday things, like buttons, beads, washi tape and other small supplies.

This project is easy, inexpensive and fast to make with supplies you already have at home.

How many geo paper baskets are you going to make? Feel free to use the comments section below for any queries or Easter wishes!
