TEHRAN - Pakistan Ambassador to Iran M B Abbasi says sanctions targeting Iranian energy sector will have no affect on multi billion dollar Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.
Iran and Pakistan formally completed signing of gas contract on June 12, 2010 under which Tehran agreed to deliver 21.2m cubic meters (750m cubic feet) of natural gas per day to Islamabad from 2014. Abbasi said sanctions imposed against Iran by UN Security Council, the US and European Union will have no impact on construction of major gas pipeline project. “Iranian and Pakistani engineers are still working on this pipeline together and this project is intact,” Iran’s news agency IRNA quoted envoy as saying. The $ 7.6b project will transfer gas from Iran’s South Pars gas field to Pakistan’s southern Balochistan and Sindh provinces.
