On May 20th, 1948 the battalion was ordered to move to the Bhimber area in Kashmir. Here they were ordered to organize the defense of the Sadabad Valley from Kabutar Gala to Assar Matteanwal. One squadron 11 Cavalry (FF) was under command. The area being vast, certain lashkars and paramilitary troops were also placed under command.

With constant and aggressive raids and patrolling, the battalion was able to wrest the initiative from the Indians. This enabled the battalion to move forward its line of observation posts and from one position now it could see Beri Pattan. In June, 1948 raids and attacks were conducted successfully against the enemy, in some of which large numbers of weapons and equipment were captured. In one attack in November, 1948 Chamb was captured by the battalion.

Because of the conduct of operations in this area the battalion was chosen for the attack on Beri Pattan. However, before it could be launched the intense Pakistan artillery fire at this place forced the Indians to seek a cease fire.

The following officers were present with the unit during the Kashmir War;

Lieutenant-Colonel Bakhtiar Rana, M.C.
Major Sarfaraz Khan
Major Masood Karim
Captain S.A. Hasan
Captain Taskeen Ud Din
Captain Khushleem Khan
