Cricket World Cup 2015 finally came to an end and Australia is the newly crowned World Champions, for the 5th time. Pakistan World cup campaign came to an end after crashing out in the Quarter Final against the mighty Aussies. While every team will look back at what good and what bad will come out of this World cup, We gather 10 things that I believe Pakistani’s will remember from the CWC 2015 down under.

1: Fawad Alam Exclusion Debate

PTV SPORTS
With an average of over 69 in a team like Pakistan & with the strike rate of 77 + (which is better than Misbah, Shehzad, Younis and Haris in the same timeline) after making his come back to the National Team since 2014, with 1 century and 2 half century in just 8 matches he played, Fawad Alam was reckoned as one of the most stable thing that comes around in the National ODI side for a while. Everyone was sure of his position except PCB, because then there was a mystery decision that came from PCB and he was dropped from the World Cup squad. Just Remarkable IT IS. !

2: Nasir’s Inclusion & His Predictable Failure

sportskeeda
Pakistan World Cup campaign was full of troubles. We had disciplinary issues, selection issues and the biggest of them all was injury issues. Hafeez got injured before playing a single game in the World Cup, which left us with only one opener in Shehzad (Considering Waqar Said He didn’t Know that Sarfaraz could open). Out of all the possible inform candidates who could have been sent for the World Cup, PCB surprised once again by sending our beloved Nasir Jamshed, who had an amazing World Cup by all standards. With an average of 1.66 and the highest of 4 in 3 matches he played, it just tells you how pathetic that decision was.

3: Persistence with Younis Khan

CricketCountry
Younis Khan is and will remain one of the best Test Batsman this country have ever produced. But at the same time, his performance in the “Green” jersey have to be termed as mere “Mediocre” overall. He was selected in the World Cup squad in place of Fawad Alam, after his comments in anger about not being selected in the ODI’s and then he proved his worth in the Test matches against Australia. Many were left scratching their head about this controversial selection considering how consistent Fawad was in the ODI format and how Younis, nearly every time disappoint his fans when playing in “Colors”.

4: Sarfaraz is An Opener? Really?

ibnlive
Sarfaraz is being talked about enough already and his performance was an answer to all the people in the Cricket board, including MR. Waqar Yonus, who didn’t know that Sarafarz can open as well. With an average over 75, he was the only century maker from Pakistan throughout the World Cup. So now you know Coach? He Can Open.

5: 14/2 Against Zimbabwe, LIKE HOW?

huffingtonpost
Pakistan was up against all the odds in the World Cup after losing the first 2 games. Even then, We just failed to understand how Pakistan can be restricted to 14 for 2 in first 10 over against Zimbabwe bowling attack, REALLY? We just want to know how? In the same match Pakistan was on fire while defending a small total, but even then Zimbabwe managed to score double of what Pakistan did in the first 10. We are still trying to figure out what daemons were on the pitch when Pakistan were batting or what special Zimbabwe did during that time to restrict Pakistan to the Lowest ever total in first 10 overs in the World Cup history. If anyone have a clue, please inform us as well.

6: Victory against South Africa

Ndtv Sports
Pakistan’s record against South Africa at ICC events is pretty poor except the knockout matches. Victory against South Africa in CWC 15 will remain the biggest Team achievement throughout the tournament. Especially when we were defending a modest total of 232 on a small ground, in a tournament where targets over 300 being chased with ease. Bravo Team Pakistan!

7: Wahab Riaz Spell

Ndtv Sports
If there was one thing the whole of Pakistani nation will remember from this World Cup, it was the fieriest spell from Wahab Riaz against Australia. It was the spell that didn’t have the figures like 5 for 20 or something, but it was the spell that will be the moment that will keep haunting the Australian current Cricket lot in general, and Watson in particular. Australia won the Quarter final, but it was only Wahab Riaz spell that was the talking point after the match and greats from all over the World praised him for his effort.

8: The Rahat Ali Drop

CricketAustralia

Remember Herschelle Gibbs dropping the World Cup in 99? Well, that’s old, because we now have our own Herschelle Gibbs in Rahat Ali. Ali dropped a sitter moments after taking a blinder according to his own standards in the Quarter final. Who knows with Australia becoming 83 for 4 chasing 213, with Wahab as fiery as he were would have to go all out against Maxwell and Smith, who would never have played in that kind of pressure of facing a potential knockout in the World Cup at home ground, things could have been a lot different.

9: Sohaib Maqsood Refusal

ArySports
Being mere average, while playing just as a batsman, only you will see in Pakistan that a player would refuse a Captain to field in a position because well, he never did it before. No matter how Misbah will try to defend him, but it was clearly a refusal of the Captain’s order, which is highly un-ethical & unprofessional.

10: Farewell to the 2 Greats

ICC-Cricket
Last but not the least, this World Cup have seen the last of 2 modern greats of Pakistan Cricket. 2 greats we loved the most, but in the contrasting way. We loved to praise the one for all of his flamboyance and aggressiveness, and we loved to hate the other for his low profile attitude and more measured and responsible approach, but regardless they will remain Greats. Pakistan should be thankful for your services, like all other countries do with their greats.

Thank You Mishab & Afridi.
Thank You for everything you did.
